There were Pious Jews from every nation in Jerusalem when they heard the sounds and a crowd gathered , they were mystified because everyone heard them speaking in their native languages. They were surprised and amazed. But, there were some doubters that thought they were just drunk, but Peter began to speak and rebutted that they were drunk because it was only the 9th hour of the morning and informed them that this was prophesied by Joel: "17In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young will see visions. Your elders will dream dreams. 18Even upon my servants, men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19I will cause wonders to occur in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and a cloud of smoke. 20The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon will be changed into blood, before the great and spectacular day of the Lord comes. 21And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. C.E.B.
After Peter had spoken there were 3000 souls that joined the church. How we need a reawakening in our world today! We have become too focused on ourselves and have turned from God. We need to become more concerned about what God wants us to do for His church and take our eyes and focus off of ourselves. We need to read the Holy Scriptures regularly and pray each time that we do read it, that He will open our minds eyes to what He wants us to know and understand. We should not lean on our own understanding.
The Methodist Church has gone to using the Common English Bible which I believe has helped me to understand the Bible message a little easier. There are many translations and I recommend that you read several so you can find one that helps you to understand it easier. When I prepare for my sermons, I will read two or three versions of the Scriptures, to help me see a bigger picture. I also use a couple of Bible Commentary's to glean a larger understanding of the Message.
The more we read and study and then apply what we learn to our daily living, then we will be able to set a good example for others to follow and grow in their relationships to God and to each other. We need to be showing Love for God and for our neighbors (which is not limited to an area less than the world).
God Bless You and enjoy the Spring weather, giving thanks and praise to God!
