Remember Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, 11-3 at 2:00 a.m. So fall back an hour. I saw a church sign that read “Fall Back on Jesus.” That is good advice!

It is great to have Margaret Cote and Debra Hammonds back with us in the congregation. Both these ladies have had some nagging health problems. As Margaret said, “I am not really ill, just down for a while.” As I age I have some of those “I don’t think I can get off the sofa days.”

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Leatherwood along with Lee’s sister, Amy Cisneroz, visited with us last Sunday. Their parents smiled so big we thought their face would break!

The Billy Clayton Family will assemble here at First Methodist on 11-2 for Billy’s Memorial Service and there will be a luncheon provided for the family in the annex. Anyone bringing a dish should deliver it to the kitchen before 10:00 a.m.

Prayers were asked for Joseph Cisneroz’s grandfather. Requests were also made for Conner Moore who was injured while playing in the football game against Eastland on 10-25. We were asked to remember to pray for Paula Proctor as she starts a new chapter in her work life.

Butch and Carolyn Belew asked the congregation to pray for their daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Gene Coan.

Judy Lunsford served as Worship Leader again and Lisa Leatherwood operated the Power Point.

Laura Leatherwood gave the children’s lesson and she talked about a Dr. Seuss story, it was “Yertle the Turtle.”

Yertle wanted to be the king of the pond. Yertle made the other turtles stack themselves up in row high enough that he could climb on top and see the entire pond. But the turtle on bottom, Mac, burped, and they all fell down! Yertle fell in the mud and learned not to think so much of himself.

Laura then told about a story in the Bible. Two men went to the temple to pray. One prayed to God loudly about how good he was, he said he kept all the rules and was a great guy. The other man bowed his head and quietly told God he was a sinner and asked for forgiveness. Laura said God listened to the sinner and forgave him. God was not pleased with the man who thought so much of himself.

Pat Leatherwood brought the sermon to us. He based his message on Luke 8: 22-25 which is the story of Jesus quieting the storm.

In these passages from Luke it describes the Jesus and the disciples riding in a boat across a large lake. A storm brews with winds and high waves. The disciples are afraid and wake up Jesus who has been asleep. Jesus commands the wind and water to be still. This miracle amazes the disciples.

Pat told us life will contain many storms; there is no getting around it. We will all face hardship and difficulty and like the disciples did when it gets bad, we will have no one to turn to but our Lord and Savior.

Pat said we are usually better for enduring the storm and learning something from it.

Get ready for the rummage sale on 11-8, 9. We need your “stuff” and your help in sorting, marking, and working the sale days. This is an opportunity to help the church help others, so pitch in.
