Our friends in church having March birthdays are Jaxon Salinas, on 3-1, Jo Ann Regan on 3-4, Carolyn Belew, 3-25 and Pat Leatherwood, 3-26. We wish these members many happy returns!

Easter is coming and we want to be ready. Dublin First United Methodist Church will once again host the “Sun Rise Services” for the local Ministerial Alliance group. Services are planned for 6:45 a.m. in our prayer garden if weather permits. A pancake breakfast will follow the early service so mark your calendar and join your friends for this glorious event.

Pastor Ken is taping the History Channel’s mini-series of the Bible. It is a condensed version, but at least it is religion on prime time TV. If enough of us let the sponsors and producers of this program know we are watching maybe more religious material will follow.

The congregation extends sympathy to the family of Mrs. Willie Williams. Mrs. William’s funeral was held in the sanctuary of our church on Saturday, 2-23, with Pastor Ken Lunsford officiating. A luncheon was provided for the family in fellowship hall. Kathy Logan and Neva Smith thank everyone who brought food and helped in the kitchen.

Sunday, 3-3, a thank you card was read to the congregation from Willie’s children who are Fred and Kay Williams and Janet and Mike Helmig.

Jack Parks asked for prayers for his brother, Harold Wayne Parks. Others prayed for were Ronnie Belew and Barbara Stevens who is recovering from knee surgery.

Laura Leatherwood brought a Mr. Potato Head to the children’s lesson. She asked the children to help her add the necessary parts for his face. He needed eyes, ears and mouth. Laura asked “how can you use these parts on your head in church?” They answered we can see people, hear our lesson, hear music, sing and say hello to people. Laura reminded them they can use these parts to learn more and worship God.

Rev. Ken Lunsford titled his sermon “Do You Want to Be Made Well?” The scripture reading was from John 5: 1-15. This scripture tells about a man Jesus met who was lying near the healing pool of Bethsaida in Jerusalem. The poor man could not get down into the water, no one would help him. Jesus first asks the man “Do you want to be made well?” The man explains his difficulty, and then Jesus tells the man to “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” Immediately he was well. The Jewish leaders questioned how he was cured and why he was carrying his mat on the Sabbath. They did not approve of healing on the Sabbath.

This man in the story had been ill for 38 years, he couldn’t get up and walk so he was waiting and hoping someone would put him into the healing pool. Jesus was there by the Sheep Gate, at the Pool of Bethesda because that is where all the sick, blind, deaf, and
lame people gathered. Jesus chooses to help this man who was an invalid for so many years. And the man does as Jesus commands; he does not question Jesus, he does not argue, he obeys straight away.

In this story there is a great message and very relevant. There is power in Jesus Christ to cleanse us from sin; there is power to heal us, to free us from the chains that bind us and to set us free.

There is also a lesson of willingness and faith. You must make a decision, an action and exercise of will to be made whole. Next you must have faith and show faith in Christ.
