The Central Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church was held 6-8 to 6-11 at Mansfield, Texas.  Pastor Ken Lunsford and Alford Havens attended the conference and represented Dublin First Methodist.

Remember Father’s Day and Trinity Sunday are 6-15.

Jimmy and Laura Leatherwood were pleased to have their granddaughter Ally and grandson Silas with them in church.  They were keeping the children while their parents Gabe and Meagan Leatherwood were celebrating their 8th anniversary.

Kathy Logan was happy as always to have her brother, Carl B. Sanders, visiting with her.

We had a couple staying out at Proctor Lake worship with us Sunday, they are Gene and Patty Hunter.

Former member Kathy Stonum was visiting in town and she brought her mother, Gail Turk, to church.

Our congregation was relieved to know that Lee Lusk was back home and recuperating nicely from surgery.  We will keep Lee and Betty in our prayers.

Laura Leatherwood talked to the children about a red balloon.  She asked “what can you do with a balloon?”  The children said blow it up and play with it.  Next Laura told the children about Pentecost and what happened to the disciples while they were in the house together.  The disciples heard a rushing wind, saw tongues of flames, and spoke in languages they did not know.  They were filled with the Holy Spirit that day and 3,000 people who heard the disciples’ story were baptized in Jesus’ name!

Laura said like the balloon is filled with air we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and go tell people how wonderful God is.

Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon was about Pentecost also.  He took his lesson from Acts 2: 1-21.

At the beginning of the 20th century about two-thirds of the world’s Christians lived in Europe.  Today more than a third of all Christians live in North or South America and about one in four Christians lives in sub-Saharan Africa.  Asia and the Pacific have about one-in-eight of the world’s Christians.

We think the United States is a Christian Nation but China is out pacing us at spreading Christianity.  Their churches are growing while ours are declining.

There are more than two billion Christians of all ages around the world, representing nearly a third of the global population.  If there is a sleeping giant in the world today, it is the church of Jesus Christ.

Do I need to remind you of the purpose toward which every Christian should be working?  That someday every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  That someday the love of Christ shall live in every heart.  There is no other hope for the world than this one.  But how will that day come unless we have a new Pentecost in the western church?  Could the church of Jesus Christ become what He intended it to be?  How shall we regain our passion as a people?

We begin by praying for our church and its mission.  Also we need to recapture our original purpose.  Next we should serve Christ with absolute passion.  There was nothing half-hearted about those early believers in Christ.

How will we awaken the sleeping giant?
