Rev. Kenneth Lunsford is attending the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church from June 3rd trough the 6th. The
Conference is held in the Waco Convention Center.

Pastor Ken will be out of town for his and Judy’s wedding anniversary on the 5th. Judy plans to eat a steak without him.

June 9 is Nancy and Cliff Wooldridge’s anniversary. Darren Price has a birthday on June 20 and Josh Kunselman celebrates one on June 21.

Many out of town guests will be in Dublin for the reunion and the Dublin Bottling Works birthday bash. Please bring them to church with you on Sunday; they are always welcome in our congregation.

Pastor Ken Lunsford delivered the funeral service for Virginia Tunnel this past week. Our congregation extends sympathy to her family and friends.

Last Sunday’s sermon was titled “Spirit of Adoption!” It was taken from Paul’s letter to the Romans. St. Paul is writing to believers to tell them they do not have to give in to the fear induced limitations of their old lives.

Paul says “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to son-ship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba,
Father.’ The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs; heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”

Bible scholars tell us to be adopted in the Roman world was to be specially selected to be a part of a household in order to carry on the family’s name and to inherit their property. To be adopted was considered a great privilege.

The term Abba is not a childlike name for Daddy; it is an adult usage for respect. It was an Aramaic word used to address elders and teachers. In all three of the New Testament occurrences of “Abba” the term is followed by “the Father.”

Do you understand that you are God’s child specially selected to be part of His family and heir to life eternal?

Shed the chains from your brain and heart, you are free; free to be everything God created you to be.
