The Green’s Creek United Methodist and First United Methodist Churches worked together last Thursday for a wonderful evening of Bible story, praise singing, and crafts.  We made new friends and had great fun.  The decorations were so very cute and looked like a forest camp out. The second installment will be on July 20.  Bring the children back for more and if yours were attending another great VBS that is now over, bring them to ours.
Prayers and well wishes for Paul Beaty who is in the hospital for a procedure today!
This congregation extends sympathy to the family and friends of Carol Gee Ritchey.
The scripture lesson last Sunday was from Matthew 10:24-39.  These verses contain the words of Jesus.  He tells His disciples “Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy both the body and soul in hell.”  He says not one sparrow will fall to the ground without God knowing about it.  Jesus tells them God counts the hairs on your head and you are worth more than many sparrows.
Rev. Ken Lunsford told the congregation that today many preachers speak of Christianity as the path to ease and prosperity.  But innocent sparrows do fall.
God’s love does not protect us from life’s problems. Why do the righteous suffer?  God has placed us in a world that is designed to bring out the best within us if we deal with life in an attitude of faith and love.  This world is a training school designed to produce souls fit to share eternity with Him.
You and I live under the rule of Grace. If you believe that Christ has atoned for your sins, you cannot believe God sends some adverse circumstance to punish you.
The child of God knows they are under the watchful eye of the Father, and by His grace, bear any burden, triumph over any tragedy, face any situation because they know they are not alone.
St. Paul suffered many misfortunes, yet, in all that, he heard the Lord’s voice saying, “My grace is sufficient for you.”
Bob Hope said, “If you haven’t got any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.”
Donate what you can spare to a reputable charity. There have been fires, floods, tornadoes and there is hunger all around us.

Vacation Bible School will be held next Thursday.  Bring the children back who attended in June along with others who would enjoy a fun filled evening learning that Jesus is the light of the world!  We will be serving supper to the youngsters at 5:30 p.m. and then singing in the sanctuary.  That is followed by Bible lessons, crafts, outdoor games, and more singing till 8:30 p.m.
Yours truly has been in Fort Worth visiting our daughter and her family. What a joy to have daughters and grown grandchildren that treat me with love and respect. That is worth getting old for!
Wish the perpetually young Eddie Raley a happy birthday on Friday and Mike and Mary Haley a joyous anniversary on Friday also.  Deborah Hammonds has a birthday on 6-29 so go by her room at Golden Age and wish her a great day!
Our congregation extends sympathy to the family and friends of Mike Porter.
We are keeping Kevin Stone in our prayers as he is in the Granbury Hospital. This is the hospital located on Paluxy Road.  Pastor Ken Lunsford’s I Phone gave a wrong address, so be careful with the GPS technology.
Jeanne Wendt served as Worship Leader and read the scripture lesson from Romans 7: 15-25.  This verse begins with, I don’t know what I’m doing, because I don’t do what I want to do.  Instead, I do the thing that I hate. St. Paul says I’m a miserable human being. Who will deliver me from this dead corpse? Thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So, then I’m a slave to God’s Law in my mind, but I’m a slave to sin’s law in my body.
Rev. Ken Lunsford titled his sermon, “Like Fighting a Giant Tuna.”
It seems in 1998 there was a tremendous run of Great Tuna off the coast of Cape Cod.  It was a fisherman’s dream of a quick bite but the big tuna was bringing as much as $50,000 for nice Bluefin tuna from Japanese buyers.  But the problem is they can weigh up to 900 pounds and are hard to land.  It requires an expert fisherman.
So in September 1998 many unqualified fishermen ignored the Coast Guard warnings and went to sea in too small a boat!  Many were capsized or swamped. The fishermen underestimated the power of the fish, that is what temptation does to us.  It takes us by surprise, it looks manageable at first, but after we hook it we discover its strength, and by then it is too late.
Millions of people through the ages have been pulled under by temptation. We get pulled under and worry we are going to drown. Doing good and avoiding evil is the primary battle of the human condition.
Remember discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons. Self-discipline is more important than IQ in how well students do in college.  Establish good habits and rid yourself of the bad ones. Help your children to establish good discipline and set them on the path to success.
WE are not alone, we have someone who will help us with our struggle and this is where prayer is all important.  Prayer is not just making requests to God, but is also listening for God to speak to us.  We gain strength spending time in the light of God’s love.
