During Celebrations, Amy Leatherwood announced her engagement to Joseph Cisneros. It is always a blessing to hear about our young adults entering into such a special time in their lives. Karen and Rickey Rowe had their daughter, Erica, and her husband with them in our service. Jo Ann Ragan announced that her sister, Wanda Patterson, will be moving from Dublin to be with her daughter. Wanda will be greatly missed! Alford Havens expressed appreciation for the church support during his illness. He reported that his new pacemaker has helped a lot. During Concerns, it was announced that another longtime member, Sybil Hodges, had passed away. Sybil’s funeral service was held at our church earlier this week. Stormy Armstrong had gotten a report on Leslie Ethetton from his wife, Betty. After having had two surgeries the week before, Leslie was beginning to show small signs of improvement. We will continue to keep him and Betty in our prayers during this difficult time.
Rev. Caraway’s sermon was titled “Why We Sing”, with the scripture reading taken from Psalm 71:23. By using a PowerPoint showing the words from select hymns (“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and “How Great Thou Art”), he stated, “Great songs are like cathedrals of words and sounds. You enter into them, and they remind you of who is on the throne.” Rev. Caraway stressed that some things are so beautiful they can only be expressed in poetry, and that “we need to sing even when we don’t feel like it. It reminds us that God is up to something big, and we are a part of it”. The closing hymn, “Wonderful Words of Life”, was sung very enthusiastically by our inspired congregation.
