Our Song Leader, Leta Sage, played and sang the musical prelude for the congregation last Sunday. Carrie and Carley Belew were our acolytes. The pianist, Pat Beaty, played strongly for the singing of the great old hymns.

Jim Leatherwood served as Worship Leader; Jim did the welcome and announcements, led us in the Affirmation of Faith, gave the offertory prayer and read scripture. He got quite a workout; Jim was helping Pastor Ken Lunsford save his voice for the sermon.

We will have a Fifth Sunday luncheon on 7-29 after services. Members and friends please bring a covered dish and stay to enjoy the fellowship.

The congregation was pleased to see Rev. Mike Hannah with us last Sunday. Rev. Hannah was here to take part in the baptism of a new member.

Brandon Spurger presented himself at the altar for Holy Baptism, Confirmation and reception into the United Methodist Church. Brandon was a member of last summer’s Confirmation Class but he had to return home to Nevada before his course was complete. He took his missed lessons last week with Pastor Ken and expressed his wishes to be baptized here in Dublin. Our congregation is happy to have Brandon join us.

Brandon’s Dublin area family joined him at the altar to support him on his decision. We all support him and wish him well.

Brandon is the great-grandson of Jo Ann Ragan and a very fine young man. Ask Jo Ann about Brandon and his younger brother Tommy, you might persuade her to talk about these boys.

Rev. Ken Lunsford continued with his sermon series from Ephesians. He talked about the walls we build and used Ephesians 2:11-22 as basis for his lesson.

Most people love walls. They see walls as their security, even their salvation.

The Great Wall of China covers one-twentieth of the earth’s circumference. It was built to keep out foreigners. Another famous wall, the Berlin Wall, was built to keep people in. It was only twenty-five miles long but it held much symbolism. It stood for hatred, fear and the failure of communism. There was incredible rejoicing when the Berlin Wall came down.

This is the story of humanity: walls, walls, everywhere walls. But Jesus doesn’t like walls. The Apostle Paul says, “But now in Christ Jesus you –who once were far away, have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Paul writes that Christ is our peace, He made the two groups one and destroyed the barrier of hostility. Jesus set aside in His flesh the law with its commands and regulations. Christ’s purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity, to reconcile both of them to God through the cross.

The barrier or wall St. Paul is referring to is the wall between Jews and Gentiles. The first Christian congregation was all Jewish. But Simon Peter had a vision and St Paul had a vision and a passion, and together they broke down the division that kept Gentiles out.

God’s intent is that we all be one family. And we will be; when you and I surrender ourselves completely to the love of God through Jesus Christ.

Volunteers are needed each week to deliver the Sunday service recordings to shut-ins. Also we need to visit or call those who have been absent from church, they may be in need of help. Check with the church office if you can help with this ministry.
