Laura Leatherwood taught the children’s lesson. She brought glue and “Sticky Notes” to show the kids. Lauratold us all some 3 M Company history. One of their research men was trying to invent a new kind of glue, but it was not working out. The man passed it on to another department and they came up with sticky notes! Laura said don’t give up and don’t quit trying and give your problems to God. He might make something different out of it.
“Embracing Christ, The Light of the World” was the title of Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon.
It was at the Tabernacle Festival at the Temple of Jerusalem that Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus Christ is the word of God made flesh. The Gospel of John opens with these words, “in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
Christianity finds the revelation of God primarily in a Person. Jesus is the revelation of God’s character and passion. He is the love of God made visible. He is the bridge to God made possible. Jesus is a bridge over troubled waters. To paraphrase the Paul Simon song this way; when you are down and out, when you are on the street, when evenings fall so hard – Christ will comfort you. He’ll take your part, when darkness comes and pain is all around, like a bridge over troubled waters, Jesus lays himself down. Jesus lays himself
down.
We can embrace His light. I want to walk as a child of the Light. I want to follow Jesus. We can hesitate in making up our minds but not making up our lives. Would you claim Jesus as your Savior and Lord?
Col. Harlan Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame said, “There’s no good reason to be the richest man in the cemetery.”
