David Cleveland, the chairman of the Trustee Committee, requested a work evening for Wednesday, June 27. The work crew cleaned the Atrium; they sawed tree limbs, trimmed hedges, mowed the grass and raked it all up. They filled a large truck bed and a trailer with debris. Those working outside were: David Cleveland, Ray LaBaume, Pastor Ken Lunsford, Pat and Lee Leatherwood, Rickey Rowe, Doris Morton and Neva Smith.
The ladies who brought food and provided cold beverages for the work crew were; Juanita Duncan, Kathy Logan, Judy Lunsford, Doris Morton, Karen Rowe, Neva Smith, Barbara Stevens and her daughter.
A work night will be held the 4th Wednesday of each month till all needed chores are completed.
The Trustees met recently and authorized work to begin on repairing the church roof. Praise the Lord and pass the shingles, we have prayed and worked hard to get this accomplished.
This past Sunday Laura Leatherwood served as Worship Leader. She welcomed everyone and gave the opening prayer then Laura led the congregation in the Apostles Creed. Our acolytes were Kaitlyn Gordon and Leah Kunselman. The ushers were David Cleveland and Gene Coan. We appreciate those willing to serve their church in any capacity.
Rev. Ken Lunsford spoke about honoring July 4th. He reminded us of the marvelous job our forefathers did in forming this nation as a democracy and free republic. He said our constitution was the first of its kind and it had served this country well for over two centuries. Pastor Ken asked the congregation to visit a cemetery or view the memorial in town next to the Dublin Library. He asked us to remember the men and women who have served our nation. He also recommended we fly our US flag or make a patriotic drawing and put in our window to celebrate Independence Day.
Alford Havens is recovering from surgery and doing nicely. He should be out and about soon.
Leslie Ethetton is recovering from surgery in Abilene Hendricks Hospital. Leslie and his wife Betty make their home in Ranger, but they both grew up in Dublin. Leslie was unable to attend his mother’s, Sadie Ethetton, funeral on Sunday. Please remember Leslie and Betty in your prayers.
Sibyl Hodges needs our prayers as her situation deteriorates every day.
We lost a sweet lady and longtime member when Ella Mae (Sadie) Ethetton passed away Friday 6-29. Her funeral was graveside at Lower Greens Creek Cemetery. Rev. Dean Bradley officiated and comforted us with stories of Sadie and her family. Rev. Bradley encouraged the family to persevere on as Sadie had done and to put their faith in Christ and live out their lives in Jesus’ care. The service was well attended by mourners of all ages.
“Do Not Fear, Only Believe!” was the title of Rev. Lunsford’s sermon. He took his lesson from Mark 5: 21-43. Pastor Ken said this story from Mark happened in the seaside city of Capernaum.
Jesus was asked by a leader of the synagogue to come and heal his little daughter. A large crowd followed Jesus and pressed around him. A woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years got close enough to touch Jesus’ cloak. She thought if only she could touch His clothes she would be healed. When Jesus asked “Who touched my clothes?” the woman came forward in fear; she fell down before him and confessed that what she had done. Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” This was a dangerous and daring thing for a woman to do in that age; to touch a man in public when she was considered unclean. But Jesus did not scold or rebuke her; He called her daughter instead and healed her in body and spirit.
Jesus continued to the sick child’s home. When He got there the house was filled with mourners who said the little girl was dead. Jesus, however, asked them all to leave except the parents of the girl. Jesus asked the little girl to get up and she did, she even began to walk about. Jesus told the parents to tell no one about what had happened and to get the child something to eat. They apparently began to tell of the miracle in their lives or we would not know the story today.
