Rev. Ken Lunsford was at Lake Brownwood Christian Retreat Center helping provide the music for a men’s Walk to Emmaus. The “Walk”is a Thursday through Sunday spiritual retreat to help the pilgrims grow a deeper commitment to Christ. Walk number 376 had 33 pilgrims
participating. Pastor Ken had a wonderful time making music with 3 other men and the song leader.
It was announced that Sunday, February 5 at 4:00 p.m. is Super Bowl Party time! The evening meal will be provided, just bring desserts and snacks. What a deal. Come and watch the game on a big screen or play dominoes and other games.
Everyone was grateful for the rain and the Lord was thanked for his grace and mercy.
Mrs. Lunsford read Psalm 111:1-10 and took her message from it.
“Faith” was title of Judy Lunsford’s sermon. Judy said to know God is to trust God. She said we must consciously live in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The Psalmist says God’s covenant is commanded
forever.
Judy preached that faith is betting your life on a God whose promises are trustworthy. Knowledge of religion and information will not give you what you are searching for.
She quoted from the old hymn “Standing on the promises of Christ my King, through eternal ages let his praises ring; glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God.”
In the Methodist tradition faith is a gift of God, not something we accomplish on our own. Instead of being a simple choice, faith is made possible by God’s grace in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. Faith is needed for our salvation, which John Wesley understood as forgiveness or justification and living a holy life which is sanctification. Faith enables us to accept God’s love for us and understand we are pardoned.
So believe, have faith, keep faith, God loves now and forevermore.
