Wanda Myers, our church secretary, is thrilled to be a grandparent. Wanda’s daughter has a fine baby boy whose name is Colton Rex Cunningham.
The congregation extends sympathy to the family and friends of Robert (Bob) Crouch Jr. Bob’s funeral was held in the sanctuary of our church and it was filled to over flowing. Pastor Ronnie Horton, minister at the Assembly of God Church and a friend of Bob’s, officiated the service.
After the funeral service a luncheon was provided for the Crouch family in the Clay Annex. The kitchen crew served approximately 80 people with donations of food from our members and the Dublin community.
Big thanks go to ladies who organize the family luncheons, cook and clean up the annex, also Pastor Ken Lunsford proved to be an excellent dishwasher.
We have new attendance registers in the sanctuary so be sure to fill them out each Sunday and the ushers will collect them at the center aisle.
“Variety of Spiritual Gifts” was the title of Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon. It was gleaned from 1st Corinthians.
Pastor Ken talked about service. He asked us what we called the place we got gasoline years ago. We said a service station. He reminded us the attendant pumped the gas, checked the oil, checked the tire pressure and waved you off with a friendly thank you.
Paul’s lesson on “spiritual gifts” was to teach the community at Corinth that whatever their individual gifts might be, they all came from the same source. They were supplied by the Holy Spirit and should be governed by the Holy Spirit. That Spirit calls us to be “in the service” for the common good, with the Body of Christ.
Every Christian is in the service to all humankind. Pastor Ken took a microphone out into the congregation and asked individuals about what they were doing to serve their fellow man. Several members recalled projects and actions that helped people. When we take Holy Communion we recite “Make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in service to all mankind.” The heart of Christianity lies in self-sacrifice.
