The Dublin Ministerial Alliance joined for an Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 20.There was a bunch of hugging, handshaking and laughing going on. Friends from all across town got an opportunity to go to church together.

Jana Roan from Community Baptist was the Song Leader and Pat Beaty of First Methodist was Pianist. These ladies did a great job and had us singing and smiling. The Praise band from First Assembly of God Church rocked the sanctuary and blew the cobwebs away! Every member of the band gave one hundred percent and you could tell.

Pastor Ken Lunsford, First Methodist Church, gave the welcome and invocation. Rev. Keith Coleman of First Baptist Church and Kenny Horton, Youth Director of First Assembly of God did scripture reading. Rev. Harold Roan of Community Baptist Church brought the message.

Rev. Roan based his sermon on Psalm 107, which teaches us to give thanks to Lord for His steadfast love endures forever. Brother Harold told us that Jesus satisfies what we are really hungry and thirsty for. It is Jesus who breaks the bonds of sin and can set us free.

Refreshments were served in fellowship hall after the service where guests visited and caught up with how their neighbors were dong.

During last Sunday’s morning service, Barbara Stevens served as the worship leader and Leta Sage was the song leader. We learned that Barbara Bean has been moved
to a nursing home in San Antonio, Texas. Barbara will be missed, but we can
understand that her daughter, Lisa Cartwright, needs to have Barbara near her to
see to her needs. We will wish her well and will keep Barbara in our prayers.

Wilma Davis is much better and did not have surgery after all. She thanks everyone for their prayers.Jack Parks said his brother, Harold Wayne, was doing much better. Harold Wayne has had procedures performed to both of his legs to open the blood flow and they have been successful.

Laura and Jim Leatherwood were happy to announce that their daughter, Elise Leatherwood, is now engaged to be married. Congratulations to Elise and her young man.

Pat Beaty sang and played “Teach Me Lord” during the offertory.

Rev. Ken Lunsford titled his sermon, “God, The Good Shepherd.” In the Old Testament Book of Ezekiel it says, “I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so I will look after my sheep! In this text the sheep is Israel and the Shepherd is God. The shepherd is devoted to his sheep; God really cares about his people.

Pastor Ken asked us if we remembered from our childhood a picture of Jesus holding a little lamb, almost all Sunday school material had a picture like that. You knew you were his little lamb and had a picture of security and well-being. The scriptures are full of those types of images, such as “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” Jesus uses the same description when He says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”  However much you have been hurt and rejected, you can count on Jesus and your new beginning can start today.

A big thank you goes to Greens Creek United Methodist Church, Pastor Mike Hannah, and their members who worked on a special Food Pantry project. A pick-up bed full of heavy sacks filled with Thanksgiving Dinner supplies was delivered to the Pantry by Adrianne and Ronnie Fails. Patti Hirst stopped by our church to chat with Annette Cleveland and see how the delivery went.

In our community the Goodfellows and the Christian Women’s Corp. do a lot to help people and they could use your help at this time of year.

Come to church this next Sunday; my church or your church, but go, you will feel better for it.
