Wow! It is Community Table time again.  We are cooking free food on Wednesday night; 2-26 so bring an appetite and come to eat. This is for our Dublin area community and all are welcome.   We thank Betty McMillian for bringing a cake to the meal last month, she just wanted to share her love and good wishes.

Families are usually running short on cash by the last of the month so bring the kids and eat with us at 630 Highland Avenue in the fellowship hall.

Some of our members visited with residents in Golden Age Nursing Home on Valentine’s Day.  They gave out Valentine cards that our members had made.

Adrian Salinas took her young sons, Joe and Jaxson, with her to Golden Age so they could wish folks a happy day.

We had a lot of fun with the youngsters who stayed with us on Valentine’s night so that their parents could go out.

The children had toys and games to play plus hot dogs to eat.  They had delicious cookies to frost and colorful sprinkles to shake on the frosting.

Our congregation extends sympathy to the family of Charles Starkey who passed away Tuesday, 2-11. Charles was the husband of Donna (Sharp) Starkey and the son-in-law of Norma Sharp.  The family was served dinner Saturday in the Clay Annex after graveside services at Bunyan Cemetery.

I forgot to mention that Ally Kay Grimm, who was baptized last week, is the daughter of Andrew and Erika Grimm of Cedar Park, Texas.  Her grandparents are Ricky and Karen Rowe. Ally’s great-grandparents are Jack and Norma Parks.

There was a large, colorful basket of flowers placed on the altar last Sunday in loving memory of Charles Lynn Starkey.

Laura Leatherwood brought a big jar of red hot candies to the children’s lesson.  She placed a ping pong ball in the jar on top of the candy. Laura asked the children     “do you have days when you feel good, so good, you feel on top of the world?”  Then Laura flipped the jar upside down and the ping pong ball was buried in the red candy.  Laura then asked “do you have bad times when you feel buried under problems, do wonder where is God?”  Laura said we need to have faith in God, we should believe!  Laura gave the jar a few shakes and like magic the ping pong ball came to the top of the pile of red hots.  Laura said God is there for us.

Rev. Ken Lunsford based his message on 1 Corinthians 3: 1-9; he titled it “Only God Can Build or Rebuild the Church.”

New life in the Spirit only comes from one source and that source is God.  We cannot grow God’s church anyone can build a church building, but only God can grow a church.  We do not “fix” the body of Christ.

The Holy Spirit seems to have been relegated to the back burner, and passion for the gospel has gone with it.  Instead of hearing about the movement of the Holy Spirit and the life-giving blood of Christ, we hear too often about the latest strategy for body-counts and marketing for programs.

We grow through a relationship with Christ out of which ministry and mission bloom forth as blossoms and fruit.  And only the Holy Spirit of Christ can breathe the breath of life into a body or a failing body.  The gospel is the green thumb of Jesus the Grand Gardener. This is the mystery of Christ’s power in our lives today.

The living presence of Jesus makes it possible for a true Body of Christ, His Church, to be incarnated within our neighborhoods.  So I ask the question, “What is hindering the formation of Christ in you and among you?”
