celebrations in Dublin and Stephenville to be cancelled!
Our Lord’s Acre Dinner was postponed and Sunday Services on 12-8 was cancelled.
Rev. Ken Lunsford and Judy went to a Christmas gathering on Thursday, 12-5, of all the Methodist ministers and their spouses in the West District. Our District Superintendent, Carol Woods, and her husband were our hosts at a restaurant in Early, Texas.
They traveled to Early in the Stephenville First Methodist bus. There were five preachers and four wives rolling along together. Things went fine till they started home and the highway was hidden under a sheet of ice. The bus was heavy and nine well fed passengers made it heaver so it was steady on the road.
Pastor Ken and Judy were thankful to be home and did not venture out again till the roadways were safe.
We have much to be thankful for; I did not hear the fire alarm during this ice storm and do not know of any fatal accidents.
The meeting to begin a new group for United Methodist women for this area is still on for Thursday, 12-12, at Dublin First United Methodist Church form 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. Come on out even if you can’t stay for the entire meeting.
Our congregation extends heartfelt sympathy to Pat Beaty, her children and family upon the passing of Pat’s mother, Jean Volpe.
The Dublin Thursday Club held a Christmas meeting in the foyer of our church this past Thursday evening. The ladies left all bundles up and were met in the parking lot by blowing sleet. We hope everyone made it home safely.
It is Advent in the Christian church and Christmas is coming regardless of the temperature and how far behind we are on our schedule. So let us smile and greet the Lord with gladness.
Here is a poem by Stella Tremble that I enjoy; it is “Christmas Again”
Christmas is a soft wind blowing news from centuries afar
Of the Christ Child in a manger. . and the wise men and the star.
Christmas is a warm fire glowing, kindling kindness in each breast.
Time of gratitude and giving, a season of the year most blessed.
Christmas is a time for singing of the Babe of Bethlehem;
Time of reverence and gladness, time of carol and of hymn.
Christmas is the time a message gives the spirit uplift;
An awareness of the meaning of the world’s most precious gift.
At this time we are reminded of the immortal words again,
Prophesied by songs of angels,“Peace on earth, good will to men!”
