First United Methodist Church News
December 16, 2018

This past Tuesday a truck bed full of boxed cookies were delivered to Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene. Ray LaBaume and James Sage delivered the sweet goodies for this area of the West District of the United Methodist Church.  We appreciate their help.
This past Sunday evening our church members along with some family guests, gathered at the Leatherwood farm for a “country Christmas” party. We helped Ben Pate celebrate his birthday at the same time. Everyone had a great time and a delicious meal.
Community Table was Wednesday night and hot Lasagna, salad, and desserts were served. Thanks a bunch, to everyone who helped.
Today the funeral for Barbara Stevens was held in our sanctuary and a luncheon was served to her family.  Our congregation extends heartfelt sympathy to Barbara’s friends and family.  Our congregation is bereaved at the loss of Barbara, who was our friend and cheerful co-worker.
The Christmas Eve candlelight service starts at 7p.m, December 24th.  We are preparing for you, so please come, all are welcome.
D.J. Klutts was the Worship Leader Sunday and our acolytes were Joe and Jaxson Salinas.  Julia Broussard gave the Advent reading and Ben Pate lit the Advent candles.
The scripture lesson was Philippians 4:4-7.  Rev. Ken Lunsford titled his sermon “Peace! Let it Show!”
In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we find one of the most popular benedictions in the church. It reads, “Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
That is an important verse for this time of year. At Advent and Christmas, we move toward the hope of peace on earth.  The angels sang in the heavens at Christ’s birth of peace on earth, goodwill toward men.
We all long for peace within our hearts, our homes, and within our world.
The Christ child brings love into human society. Isaiah the prophet wrote, “A little child shall lead them.” It is Christ Jesus alone who brings peace to troubled hearts and families and to a troubled world. That’s what Christ does when He comes into a life.
