Neva Hancock Smith’s birthday party was well attended on the 3rd. In fact they were running out of room in the Clay Annex! There were all kinds of food and vases of beautiful flowers of different colors. Hot pink and yellow were the main colors used to decorate.

Neva brought two tables full of photos and scrapbooks. There were many mementos displayed that were dear to her heart. Congratulations Neva.

The Outreach Committee has scheduled a meeting on 8-14 at 6:30 p.m. If you are on this committee or an interested church member please attend this planning session.

Painting is finished in the foyer and the pictures need to be re-hung.

Nancy Wooldridge served as Worship Leader and Lisa Leatherwood gave the children’s lesson.

Lisa told the youngsters about a story in the Bible. Lisa asked them if they ever “people watched.” She said Jesus went to the temple and was watching the people. He saw many people that day, some were rich and had nice clothes and bags filled with coins. They gave a lot of money to the offering, and then Jesus saw a poor woman come by and put in two small copper coins. Jesus went to His disciples and said that woman has put in more than anyone because she gave all she had.

Lisa told us that it is not the size of your offering but what is in your heart that counts.

Rev. Ken Lunsford titles his sermon “Take Care, Be on Guard.” Pastor Ken based his message on Luke12:13-21.

Jesus told a parable about a rich man who built bigger barns to store his bountiful crop. The man said to himself I have plenty, I will enjoy life; I will eat, drink and take it easy.

But God said to him, “Fool, tonight you will die. Now who get the things you prepared?” This is what will happen to those who hoard for themselves and are not rich toward God.

How many of us have a garage filled with “stuff?”How many of us have a storage unit because we have too much “stuff” to keep at home?

A comedian did an entire monologue on the“meaning of life is trying to find a place to put your stuff.”

Jesus did not find fault with the rich farmer making a good crop, He didn’t fault the man for eating, drinking, and relaxing. Jesus did that as well. The rich man’s problem was all his focus was on himself to the exclusion of all others. Idolatry begins with an “I.” At no time did the man invite God’s participation in his decisions or factor in other people, not even his family, into his planning.

Jesus’ parable points to a need for a focus on faithfulness to God. The wealth we can accrue in this world is a rich relationship with God. When your life is demanded of you, that
relationship will be the only treasure that travels with you to heaven.
