First United Methodist Church News
November 26, 2017

The Community Table served Taco Soup, cornbread, tea, coffee, and desserts.  We mean what we say, it is for our community so come and dine with us on the last Wednesday of the month.  There is no fee, no donation jar, just food and fellowship.
We invite everyone to visit the Dublin First United Methodist Church website at http://fumcdublintx.com .  We post photos, devotionals, and past news articles.
Our church is decorated for Christmas! Come by Monday thru Thursday before noon, or Sunday Services, and see how wonderful it looks.
It was Women’s Sunday and our ushers and greeters were Betty Lusk and Laura Leatherwood.
Laura Leatherwood gave the children’s message. She asked them about Thanksgiving and what they were thankful for. Then Laura showed them a donut she had wrapped in a paper towel.  Laura asked the youngsters and the congregation to repeat a little saying; “Focus on the donut and not the hole.”  Laura said look at your family and the good things as you go through life.
The children each received a small brown paper bag from Laura with a treat in it. We can only guess what it was.
Prayers were requested for Alton Lusk who is the brother of Lee Lusk, for Liam Cisneros who is Pat and Lisa Leatherwood’s grandson, and for Frank Stone who is Kevin Stone’s father.  Jeanne Wendt would appreciate prayers for her brother Ronnie Laird.
The scripture lesson was from James 1:5, 19-27 & 3:17-18.
Lisa Leatherwood brought the sermon last Sunday.  Lisa said she had been thinking about the Christ Child, about Jesus as a baby.  She envisioned Him as a beautiful, perfect, and flawless child, who was sent into the world to be our Savior.  It is hard to understand that God gave His son for us and that the Son suffered for all.
Laura was concerned about the ugliness and hatefulness in the world now, even among some church members.  We should confront hate with love because more hate will not solve the problem.  We must fight evil and we have the best soldier on our side and that is Jesus.  As a Christian it is our responsibility to be kind to people always.  We may be the only view of Christ that some people see.
Be kind, pray for your church and the world, and drown out the bad.  God will equip us to face evil, He gave us the word to study.  Pray constantly, God will direct you.
We believe God’s infinite love is available to all, call us at 254-445-2157 or email at fumcdublin630@gmail.com .

Judy’s letter-November 19, 2017
The Community Thanksgiving service this past Sunday at Dublin First Baptist Church was a soul-warming experience. Dr. Cliff Sims welcomed those attending, Rev. Ken Lunsford gave the opening prayer, the First Baptist praise band led us in song, and Rev. Gerald Freeman of the Highland Ave. Congregational Methodist Church made a heart-felt appeal for the organizations that the offering plate would go to, those are: Dublin Goodfellows, Dublin Salvation Army, and Christian Women’s Job Corps.
Rev. Jimmy Holleman, past of Double N Cowboy Church brought the evening’s message He read from I Thessalonians 5:16. This scripture tells us to rejoice always. Pastor Holleman told us to pray constantly and to keep our focus on Jesus. We don’t deserve the grace God has given us, but He bestowed it on us in the death and resurrection of Christ.
Rev. Greg Judy gave the closing prayer and the congregation moved into fellowship hall for a reception of plenty of finger foods, desserts, and drinks.
FUMC Community Table is Wednesday, November 28th, and we need drivers to help deliver food boxes. If you don’t want to drive, then work in the kitchen. That will free someone up to drive; Also, if you could bring a car-load to or fellowship hall to dine that would be good.
Jill Moore told us Sunday that her son, Brady, worked with his basketball team at East Texas Baptist University to prepare 200 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Way to go, Brady, and ETBU!
Remember to bake cookies for the troops. The due date to deliver to the church is December 17th. Pack one dozen cookies in a one-gallon zip lock bag, two bags per box. Correct size boxes will be provided by the church.
Lawrence Outlaw will have laser surgery on his eye and requests your prayers. Others needing prayers are, Louise Sharp, Angie Milton, Michael Stein, Sr., and Rev. Ken Lunsford.
Rev. Lunsford titled his sermon, “Excuses, Excuses!”
You and I are responsible for the choices we make. We are responsible for how we live our lives. Life may be unkind to us or we may be incredibly lucky, but still, we are accountable for how we respond to life’s up and downs. Circumstances rarely determine our destiny. It is our character that makes the difference.
Now I am not referring to those with physical and mental disabilities. We, as a society out to do more to help these folks and have compassion for them.
Has God called you to do something or to do it better? Are you constantly looking for excuses for not doing His will? Let us all do better, and the Master will be pleased.
Happy Thanksgiving!
