Community Table was Tacos!  Join us for food, fun, and fellowship next month on the last Wednesday.  This meal is free, we do not “pass the hat” or set out a jar for donations.  Members of other denominations or no denomination come by for supper.  We do not judge you for the circumstances you may be living in.  But all the workers do have a serious job, it is to represent Jesus Christ in the 21st century.
Sunday is fifth Sunday singing and covered dish luncheon.  Bring a dish or two of what is in the refrigerator or pantry and we will have a fine meal.
The Finance Committee will meet October 1, at 6:30 p.m. to set the budget for next year.  And the Nominations Committee will meet October 3, at 6:00 p.m. to appoint the officers for the coming year.
Meals-on-Wheels needs drivers to deliver to shut-ins in the Dublin area.  This is on a week-day during the mid-morning hours. Please call 254-967-3510.
Kevin Stone is a grandpa!  His daughter, Rachael, gave birth to a sweet baby girl and her name is Kelsey Ann Stephens. Congratulations.
Lee and Betty Lusk have a new great-grandbaby.  Her name is Rown Adelaide Novosad.  I’m sure I will be giving spelling corrections next week for these names!
Jill Moore visited with Less and Betty Ethetton’s youngest daughter.  She said her parents send much thanks for our prayers and calls.
It was wonderful to see Cliff Wooldridge looking well, he and Nancy were in church Sunday and they looked glad, and we were truly glad for them to be there.  It has been a long and difficult road back to health for our friend Cliff.  Once again prayers were answered.
Deborah Hammonds is recuperating from her surgery and back in Golden Age Home. She has a lot of therapy ahead of her and she misses her dog, Bubbles.
Irene Sohm is facing surgery in October. She really needs our prayers for a good out-come.
Mary Haley has knee surgery in her future. We hope and pray this goes well and is the last surgery Mary must face.
Our Worship Leader was Jeanne Wendt.  Jeanne read the scripture lesson from James 3:13-4:3, 7-8.
Pastor Ken Lunsford preached on “Wisdom from Above!”
Life is unpredictable, things happen that are good and bad, life can be unfair.  That is why our connection to the Holy Spirit, the living presence of Christ, needs to be maintained every day.  We can’t subsist on emergency moments.
James talks about earthly wisdom and wisdom from above.  Earthly wisdom inspires envy, ambition, and get ahead at any cost mentality. The wisdom James recommends for us is a heavenly wisdom, one that is focused from a different perspective.  James asserts that those with genuine wisdom will be revealed by their good life, by a daily expression of good works and obedience to God, and by an attitude of humility.  True wisdom is peace-loving and exhibits a spirit of consideration.  We must offer mercy, goodness, impartiality, and sincerity.  The “fruits” of these attitudes will be peace and righteousness and a Christian community of faith that is pleasing to God.
The church Office number is 254-445-2157 and the fax number is 254-445-2158.  The new phone book has it backwards.  Also, our Office hours are Monday thru Thursday 9am until 1pm.
Pray for God’s will to be done in your church and community every day!

Get the word out that Erath County needs volunteers to deliver meals in the Dublin area.  If you cannot drive everyday then be a substitute. Call 254-965-3510.
All Erath County residents may come to get food at the Stephenville First Baptist Church parking lot this Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Take a friend, carry a hungry family, anyone living off social security could use some help.

Pastor Ken Lunsford and I attended a “Small Church Summit” in Gatesville last Saturday.  The event ran from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. and the large church facility was crammed full of people.  We saw many longtime friends, especially Pastor Ken, but he can find another Methodist preacher in Sherwood Forrest.
Ken and I both attended seminars about small rural or small urban congregations.
Barbara Stevens had one of her daughters in for a visit and they came to church. Barbara has had her great-grandson, Liam Bryson Ware, here visiting with family.  Liam is the son of the late Jeremy Ware.
Kevin Stone was happy to have his mother, Judy Stone, sitting on his right and his daughter and son-in-law sitting on the left. Kevin may be a grandfather by the time you read this.
Lee and Betty Lusk are waiting on another great-granddaughter, it could be any day now.
Neva Smith is glad to be back home safely from Bryan.
This could have been a concern, but it is good news instead, it seems Jimmy Leatherwood made a trip to the ER.  He must have worked too hard in the warm weather, but it is better to let the doctors have a look.
Ike and Patty Wade asked for prayers for Beverly Keith of Comanche.
Jeannie Wendt asked for prayers for her young neighbor, James, who is on crutches.  Jeannie also asks for prayers for Franklin Graham when he brings a crusade to Blackpool, England.
Laura Leatherwood served as Worship Leader and Cole Moore served as acolyte.
Rev. Ken Lunsford preached on “Taming the Tongue!”
In the Book of James 3:1-12 it says a small flame can set a whole forest on fire. The tongue is a small flame of fire, a world of evil at work in us. It contaminates our entire lives. Because of it the circle of life is set on fire.
With our tongue we can both bless the Lord and Father and curse human beings made in God’s likeness.  That should not be so according to James.  Salt water and Fresh water does not flow from the same spring.  “Be careful of stones that you throw!” (Hank Williams Sr. song)
Solomon said in Proverbs 12:18b, “the tongue of the wise brings healing.”  Let’s all practice using words of healing instead of hate!

Sunday was Grandparents Day!  Our members with grandchildren and great-grandchildren report all is well with their families.
Mike and Mary Haley are traveling to ball games these days, their grandson is the quarterback for the Granbury Pirates high school football team.
Tell your friends and family about the Stephenville Community Pantry. They will be distributing food at the Stephenville First Baptist Church parking lot on Thursday, September 20, from 5 till 7 p.m. It is open for all Erath County residents, so come to get all types of food.
I will remind everyone that a food bank is housed in the front of the First United Methodist Church and that we are open Monday through Thursday from 9 am till 1 pm. Many different groups and churches contribute to this ministry.
Call our office at 254-445-2157 for more information or email us at fumcdublintxsecretary@gmail.com .
Prayers for Deborah Hammonds who has had hip surgery.  We also pray for Jeff and Lisa Weaver’s daughter, Kathy.
Our congregation extends sympathy to Ron Baker and his wife Maxine on the passing of Ron’s father.
Lisa Leatherwood served as our Worship Leader and she read the scripture lesson from Mark 7:31-37.  Cole Moore and Joe Salinas were our acolytes.
Rev. Ken Lunsford titled his sermon, “Do You Believe in Miracles?”
In the scriptures read by Lisa there was stories of Jesus performing healing miracles. He healed the young daughter of a non-Jewish woman; the woman was Greek and from Syrophoenician.  Jesus had been performing miracles and healings, but these were for the Jews.  In this situation, He healed a Gentile.
Jesus then went from Tyre, and through the region of the Ten Cities. Some people brought a man who was deaf and barely spoke. The man’s ears were opened, and his twisted tongue was released. The people were overcome with wonder.
Jesus the Christ primary mission was to preach the gospel of deliverance and healing for all people.  But He still responded to people who were in need whatever that need might be. Jesus healed in many ways, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
God does not always work in the way we have specified in prayer.  But God does work and sometimes a miracle occurs. There are several walking miracles in this room.
At the end of the service the congregation gathered around several small blankets and quilts.  We joined hands and prayed a blessing upon the small coverings. The little blankets will be given to the Dublin Police and Fire Departments and the quilts will go to our shut-ins.
The blankets were made by the children who attended our vacation bible school this summer. They had a “project with a purpose!” May God bless the children who made the blankets and the children who will receive them.

On behalf of our church and Community Table ministry, I want to thank the volunteers who come to help us from outside our church.  These wonderful folks who help prepare the food, box up the take out, or deliver are truly our brothers and sisters in Christ.  They humble me every time I see them at work. God bless you.
I must tell you that a large group of men from the Rotary Club and Lions Club actually cooked the hamburger patties for the last Community Table.  Some could help a while and then leave, and others would show up.  They grilled 300 patties behind the Rotary building! I said a few years ago it takes a village to pull off a hamburger party in Dublin and it still holds true.
D J Klutts gave a head count of number of people served a meal that evening, it was 272.  Some of the fellows who ate “in house” with us ate two burgers.  My neighbor, Dalton Craddock, phoned us to say he “thought it was the best hamburger he ever ate.”
The Stephenville Community Pantry will be at the Stephenville First Baptist Church parking lot on Thursday, September 20, from 5 till 7 p.m.  It is for all Erath County residents. Come to get all types of food, bring someone who needs food, or come to volunteer.  Here is an opportunity to serve the Lord.
It was announced that Deborah Hammonds will have surgery on September 10 and that she would appreciate our prayers.  Pastor Ken prayed for her by name.
Our congregation extends sympathy to the family and friends of Sam Moore.  Sam was a football coach here in Dublin several years ago. His son and daughter-in-law are Sammy and Jill Moore.
September birthdays are David Cleveland and Kaitlyn Gordon.
Rev. Ken Lunsford preached about “Commandments or Traditions.”  He based his lesson on scripture from the seventh chapter of Mark.
These scriptures deal with the Pharisees condemning Jesus and His disciples eating without ritually cleaning their hands.  Now these Pharisee knew nothing of germs and bacteria, this was a ritual, religious process.
Jesus called the crowd together and said “Listen to me. Nothing outside of a person can contaminate them in God’s sight; rather, the things that come out of a person contaminate the person.”
It could be that in Jesus’ sight these traditions had taken on almost idolatrous significance for the Pharisees. This is true of many persons besides the Pharisees, including Christians.  God then is on our lips, but not in our hearts. And it is our hearts that Christ is concerned about, it is the inner person Christ came to redeem.  Are we satisfied to appear like a Christian or do we want to follow Christ? Will we put on the mantel of Christ?
We believe God’s infinite love is available to all, call us at 254-445-2157 or email at fumcdublintxsecretary@gmail.com
