We enjoyed juicy, outdoor-grilled hamburgers for Community Table. The aroma of the meat is so enticing, and I didn’t have to cook it!
Kevin Stone had a big smile on his face when his handsome son came to church with him last Sunday.
Jimmy and Laura Leatherwood’s youngest grandchild, Gracie Lou, is one year old now. We like to see Gracie in church, she is a very good baby.
Pastor Ken Lunsford is seeing great from the eye that the cataract was removed from.
Pat Leatherwood is feeling much better now that his kidney stones are gone.
Mayor of neighboring Comanche, Texas Ronnie Clifton, has had open heart surgery. Ronnie is a cousin to Ike and Patty Wade and a longtime friend to Pastor Ken and me. Prayers for Ronnie and his wife Mona.
Sammy Moore was sad to report his father, Sam, has been put on hospice care.
Prayers for Robert Keese who is facing serious health problems. He is going to Scott and White Hospital in Temple for tests.
Our congregation extends sincere sympathy to Red Siegers, former Dublin mayor, on the passing of his son. The funeral service was in Enid, Oklahoma.
Laura Leatherwood came to church on crutches due to a knee problem. Laura served as our Worship Leader and read the scripture lesson.
I find it amazing that some folks will come to church no matter what the difficulty or pain they face, while others grasp any excuse to be elsewhere.
Rev. Ken Lunsford took his sermon from Ephesians 6:10-20 and titled it, “Proper Dress of a Christian.”
St. Paul writes to the Ephesians and tells them to put on God’s armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil. Paul says we are fighting the forces of cosmic darkness, the spiritual powers of evil.
“Therefore, pick up the full armor of God so that you can stand your ground on the evil day.” Paul says put the belt of truth around your waist, then justice and righteousness as your breastplate, and put on shoes that are ready to spread the good news of peace. Above all, carry the shield of faith. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is God’s word. Stay alert and pray for all believers.
Firemen have a dangerous job. They must wear protective clothes, or they could be killed or seriously injured. A firefighter would be foolish to go to a fire without the proper clothes and equipment.
Christians have protective gear also. Paul says it is time for Christians to “suit up.” He calls us soldiers in God’s army. Living out our faith is serious business.
We are soldiers of Christ and it shows in our everyday life. The Gospel gives us firm footing as we seek to live for Christ.
The Church of Jesus Christ bathes us in the waters of baptism. The Church feeds us with the word of God and sacrament. And the Church helps us to put on the armor of God. The Church will send us in many directions on adventures till one day we are led into the presence of God!
