_ This past Sunday was the second Sunday of Easter and the church vestments remain white. It was also the first Sunday of the month and communion Sunday at First Methodist and Laurel St. churches.

Laura Leatherwood served as Worship Leader for last Sunday.

Birthdays for the first half of April are; Ricky Rowe was April 2, Travis Rasberry was April 3, Dr. Harlan Raley, April 4, and Adrian Salinas will celebrate on the 12th.

Debra Hammonds and Judy Lunsford have both been “under the weather” lately and feeling rough. They would appreciate your prayers for recovery.

There was a lot to be thankful for also, the great rains were much needed. The Leatherwood family was grateful for Amy Leatherwoods successful wedding shower. Several of the hostesses are members of this church. The shower was well attended and everyone had had a fun time. We look forward to Amy’s and Joseph Cisneroz’s wedding later this month.

Did you know we have enhanced hearing devices in some of the pews and large print Bibles at the ends of some pews? We want to make your worship experience as meaningful as possible.

Rev Ken Lunsford’s sermon was titled “Believe with All Your Heart, Mind and Strength!” John 20:19-30 was the scripture read, these verses tell of Jesus’ appearance to His disciples after His death and resurrection. The disciple Thomas was hard to convince so Jesus asked Thomas to put his fingers into Jesus’ nail pierced hands and his hand into Jesus’ wounded side.

When Jesus made the decision to go to Jerusalem the disciples thought that would be certain death. Surprisingly it was Thomas who said: “Then let us go so that we may die with Him.” It was a courageous statement, but we don’t remember him for that. Thomas is always thought of as the doubter. It is Thomas that unequivocally states Christ’s Divinity when he says to Jesus “My Lord, and my God.” He does not call Jesus teacher, or Lord, or Messiah, but God! These are not the words of a doubter. Jesus did not blame or condemn Thomas for his doubts.

Faith is not the absence of doubt; it is the overcoming of doubt. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet still believe. We had better leave some room for mysticism in our worldview.

Pastor Ken said “Let me tell you something that has gotten me through many dark nights. Never doubt in the dark what God has told you in the light.”

The Ministerial Alliance Sunrise Service was great on Easter morning. The weather cooperated and the temperature was not a chilly as past Easter mornings. The sun rose in the east
behind the three crosses erected in the prayer garden, then the clouds turned copper and gold color and it was all in CinemaScope and High Definition curtsey of the Lord God.

Ministers participating in the service were; Reverends Brian Emerson of Calvary United Pentecostal Church, Gerald Freeman of Highland Ave. Congregational Methodist Church, Michael Hannah
of Greens Creek United Methodist Church, Ronnie Horton of the Church of the Lost and Found Assembly of God, Ken Lunsford of First United Methodist and Laurel St. United Methodist Churches, Harold Roan of Community Baptist Church, and Cliff Sims of First Baptist Church who brought the message.

Pat Beaty played the key board for the congregational singing and Sheera Emerson sang a special for the Offertory. The collection offering will go to the Salvation Army for use in the Dublin community.

Following the Sunrise Service there was a pancake and sausage breakfast served in the Clay Annex. We had our choice of hot coffee, orange juice or milk to enjoy with the pancakes. David Cleveland did the cooking, others helping in the kitchen were Annette Cleveland, Adrian Salinas and Stormy Armstrong. They must make a great team because the food was warm and ready on time, two serving lines were utilized and everyone passed through rapidly.

An Easter egg hunt was held in the garden for the children later in the morning. I hope there were photos taken at the egg hunt so Wanda Myers can put them on the church website.

At the 11 o’clock service Judy Lunsford served as Worship Leader, Pat Beaty played the piano and Leta Sage played the organ. Acolytes were Brady and Cole Moore.

For the children’s lesson Laura Leatherwood explained what an empty egg represented. The full egg may mean new life or a new beginning, but the empty egg reminds us of the empty tomb
where Jesus was laid. Laura showed the children a colored egg and then broke it open and it was empty.

Rev Ken Lunsford’s sermon was titled “Why Are You Weeping? Whom Do You Seek?” The scripture read was from John 20:1-18, this chapter in John tells of Jesus’ resurrection from death on
that first Easter morning.

Simon Peter and another disciple find the tomb empty and the burial cloth rolled up lying by itself. But Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene in the garden of tombs and tells her to go to his disciples and what to say to them.

Pastor Ken said the proof of the Resurrection of Christ is not an empty tomb, but an Easter people; people whose lives have been transformed and who love and follow Jesus.
