There is going to be plenty of chances for fellowship in the days ahead.  We have a Fifth Sunday Luncheon on 3-30 immediately after services.  Next on 4-16 our congregation will do an Easter Egg hunt for little children that afternoon.  Then we serve the Community Table for April from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on 4-16.

The Women’s Bible Study continues every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Our Women’s Group had a great time at Betty Lusk’s home playing the domino game of “Train.”  Betty’s husband, Lee, hid out in his man cave and watched TV.  We ladies got to eat ice cream sundaes and laugh a lot.

Remember to bring canned goods for the for the food pantry on 4-6.

There will be a Vacation Bible School planning session on Monday, 4-7 at 6:30 p.m.  If we have enough workers to help we can have a school this year. We can decide whether to do Bible School at night, in the day time, or a week-end.

Laura Leatherwood was our Worship Leader on Sunday, 3-23 and she did a wonderful job.

Pastor Ken preached earlier at Laurel St United Methodist Church, and then he and his wife Judy drove to San Saba to visit with friends.

Kevin Caraway, a lay minister from De Leon First Methodist Church, was gracious enough to “fill in” for Rev. Ken Lunsford.

“Who Is My Neighbor” was the title of Kevin’s sermon and he based it on Luke 10: 25-37.  This part of Luke tells of Jesus’ parable of the “Good Samaritan.”

Kevin used the power point to explain his story of the hatred the Jews had for the Samaritans.

A traveler was set upon by thieves, all his possessions were stolen, even the man’s clothes.  He was severely injured and left for dead.

All the men passing by the beaten and bloody half dead man on the Jericho road were probably going to the Temple in Jerusalem.  The passing priest would have to make the choice of helping the poor fellow or becoming ritually unclean by touching the blood.  So, the priest went on by.  The same thing occurred when a Levite passed by. The third man, an un-named Samaritan, chose to stop and render aid. He tended the wounded man with oil and wine.  Ironically this is what the priest would use at the Temple. The Samaritan put the wounded man on his donkey and took him to an inn.  He paid the inn keeper to care for the wounded person and said he would return to check on him and pay more if required.  When Jesus asked a Jewish legal expert “Which one of these three was a neighbor to the injured man?”

The legal expert replied “the one who showed mercy towards him.”  Jesus told him to go and do likewise.  Notice the expert would not even say Samaritan. The truth was laid before the expert but he was not comfortable with it.

Kevin said some folks may be different from us; they may vote different, have a different religion, and even be of a different race.  But they may stop and care for us and then they are our neighbors and we should love our neighbors, shouldn’t we?

Wednesday, 3-26 is the date for our next Community Table so bring a friend and come to eat.  Cornbread and beans are on the menu.  It will be good and it will be hot and the price can’t be beat. It’s free!  We will be serving from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm.

April’s Community Table will be moved up to the 16th due to Easter.  We will have an Easter egg hunt before the meal on that night.

Our church had a vehicle in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade on 3-15.  Raymond Salinas lent his pickup and David Cleveland drove it.  Barbara Stevens kept David company and waved at the people lining the street. They had a truck bed full of children with Adrian Salinas watching over them.

Barbara Stevens was our Worship Leader on Sunday, 3-16.  Pastor Ken had Zeke Miller and Joe Salinas helping him as acolytes.

Our congregation extends sympathy to the family of Sy Norris and keeps them in our prayers.

Laura Leatherwood presented the Children’s Lesson.  She brought pictures of a caterpillar and told about a real hungry caterpillar.  Laura showed a picture of a caterpillar making a covering for himself called a chrysalis. The children knew what this was and that a butterfly would emerge from the chrysalis.  Laura showed a picture of a butterfly and said “look this is a different creature”

Laura told the children about Nicodemus’ questions for Jesus.  She told what being born again or born anew really means. She said that when you believe in Jesus and give your life to Him you become different, you are a new being.

Two new members were received into our congregation last Sunday; they are Lee and Betty Lusk.  We are very pleased to call them members.

Rev. Ken Lunsford chose John 3:1-17 to base his sermon on. This scripture of the Bible tells about a Pharisee called Nicodemus who was a Jewish leader.

How much trust in God must we have?  How much faith does it take?  How can we be born again?  These are the same questions Nicodemus had for Jesus.

No one can be part of the kingdom of God unless he is ready for commitment. We must be willing to let the old life go and trust in God for a new birth. You must take the risk to start again. No one can go back to seize opportunities; time has snatched them away.

We can move forward, we can trust Jesus.  We can look to God to lead. When we ask God to open doors for us to make a difference in the lives of others that is taking a risk.  When we talk to someone about our faith, despite our fears, that is spiritual adventure.

Faith means being born again as a new person; you will be leaving the comfortable behind to adventure with God.

Betty Lusk will host our “Ladies Night Out” group on 3-19.  The party starts at 6:30 pm; call Betty at 445-1877 for directions.

Judy Lunsford served as Worship Leader on Sunday, 3-9 with Joe Salinas and Cole Moore helping as acolytes.

Members with March birthdays are Jaxon Salinas 3-1, Jo Ann Ragan 3-4, Carolyn Belew 3-25, and Pat Leatherwood 3-26.

The congregation sang “Happy Birthday” to these members and wished them happy days ahead.

Travis Rasberry is back at home after having a procedure done in Fort Worth.  Keep both Travis and Melba in your prayers.

Our congregation extends sympathy to Latrell Cain on the passing of her daughter, Amy.

Pastor Ken gave the Children’s Lesson. He asked the children “When you take a trip in the car to a place you haven’t been, what do you need?  They knew you need a map or you can get lost. Pastor Ken yes, a map or a GPS guide like Tom-tom will tell you where to go.

Pastor Ken explained the Bible is a map or guide for finding the right way to go through life. Pastor Ken said many Christians don’t read their Bible and that is a sad thing.  He encouraged the youngsters to always find time to read their Bible.

Our pianist Pat Beaty sang “Be Thou My Vision” for the Offertory. It was beautiful and the congregation enjoyed it.

“Worship the Lord Your God” was the title of Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon.  The lesson was taken from Matthew 4:1-11; this section of Matthew tells of Jesus being tempted by Satan in the desert.

Temptation is the wedge of the devil’s desire that seeks to wear us down or wear us out. But there is good news today. There is one who has faced temptation and overcome it. There is one who promises to strengthen us in our battle with the devil.

Jesus knows the solution is not simply will power. Jesus knows the power of temptation; He knows its allure for the human heart. But the key to overcoming this allure is God’s power. It is not our resolve, but God’s Spirit.

We need to fill our hearts with the presence of God and never deal with temptation alone.

St. Paul, the apostle said it very well, “Who will rescue me from this sinful nature? Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ my Lord!”

Pastor Ken told us to stay close to each other, worship regularly and often, avoid temptation, and fill your heart with God’s word. Because if you do; you will grow strong in Jesus’ name.
