Much thanks goes to all the ladies and children who made and decorated Valentines for the residents at Golden Age Manor and Three Oaks Assisted Living.  Laura Leatherwood organized this effort.  Laura and Adrianne Salinas along with Adrianne sons Joe and Jaxon delivered the Valentines.

Cole Moore and Joe Salinas served as acolytes on Sunday, 2-22.   We appreciate their help.

Joe Horn is feeling better and we hope that he is his “Ole self again.”

Kathy Logan is still mending from her fall.  She has had a lot of “drop in” company to check on her.  If only we could make the hurt go away, then we would be really useful.

Check your March calendar, Day Light Savings Time is coming up again and Easter is around the corner.

At Children’s Time, Laura Leatherwood spoke about what Lent means.  She said it was the old English word for spring and it means renewal time.  Not every denomination observes Lent, but ours does.

Laura said Jesus went out into the wilderness to think and prepare.  He did not eat for 40 days.  During Lent we are preparing ourselves for Easter.

Laura gave out crosses for the youngsters to take home and decorate.

“A Reminder to God and to Us” was the title Rev. Ken Lunsford’s lesson, it was taken from Genesis 9: 8-17.   It is the story of Noah and his sons and the covenant or pledge God made with Noah and his decedents.

God sends a great flood and there is no escape.  There is no high ground to move to.  God is doing a system reboot and starting all over.  Only one family in all the world will be left.  Noah was a righteous man and Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord the writer of Genesis tells us.

God tells Noah to make a large ark of cypress wood and water proof it with pitch on the inside.  Then fill it with all the animals and birds on the earth, take them male and female, two by two.  After the rains came the land was flooded for one hundred and fifty days.  When the ark came to rest on Ararat and the earth was dry again, Noah came out of the ark.

Then God made a covenant with humanity, He said never again would all life be destroyed by a flood.   “Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears, I will remember my covenant (promise) between me and you and all living things.

The power of a promise kept.  Some of you have seen it in your parents’ marriage.  You’ve seen it in the faithfulness of good friends.  Some of you have experienced it in those dark hours when you needed God’s power.  God is a promise keeper.

The rainbow may be a reminder to God, but the cross is the reminder to us that God so loved the world that He gave His son for us.

A group of ladies are going to hear the choral group “For Men Only” on Saturday, 2-21.  The performance is at the First Baptist Church of Stephenville.  We will gather at 4:50 p.m. in the First United Methodist parking lot.

The next Community Table meal is on Wednesday, 2-25.   If you have not been to one of these gatherings you are missing the tasty food and the fellowship.  Bring a friend or neighbor and come be with us.

To the youngsters out there who need to do a service for their community to add to your scholarship resume or earn a Boy Scout badge, helping with the meal is a great opportunity.  We serve at 5:00 p.m. so come at 4: 30 and we will put you to work!

Lisa Leatherwood was back serving as Worship Leader on 2-15.  Lisa attributes her fast recovery from back trouble to the loving prayers offered for her well-being.

Lisa was happy to announce there is a new nephew on her and Mary Haley’s side of the family.

Kathy Logan fell in her yard and hurt her shoulder.  She needed help and Hilda Underwood came to the rescue and took Kathy to Stephenville to the emergency room.   Kathy is healing at home at the moment.

Pastor Ken prayed for Ronnie Belew by name as Ronnie was expected to have surgery in the metro-plex on 2-18.

Laura Leatherwood had a surprise for the Children’s Time, she brought a recording of “Climb up Sun Shine Mountain” to listen to.  Then Laura told a story about Jesus taking Peter, James, and John up on a mountain where they were all alone.  Jesus’ clothes turned whiter and brighter than anything the men had seen before.  Next God spoke to them and said Jesus was His son!  Laura said that we should ask Jesus for His light to shine on us.

Rev. Ken Lunsford preached on “Being Transformed by God.”  He took his lesson from Mark 9: 2-13.

This part of Mark tells of the transfiguration of Jesus and that the disciples were terrified.   And who wouldn’t be to see someone start to glow and their robe become whiter than any washing could make it.  Then Moses and Elijah appear right before them and quickly they are gone into thin air.

The disciples have witnessed Jesus as they have never seen Him before, they see Him as Moses and Elijah and God always see Him and how we will we see Jesus when He returns!  They saw Him in His full glory.  The disciples were on the mountain top to renew their spirits and gain some insight.  Now Peter wanted to build three shelters for the three great leaders of Peter’s religion and he wanted a shrine to worship in.  But Jesus said “No, our work is back down in the valley.”  Then God got Peter’s attention by speaking up.  God said, “Be quite and listen.”  We are called to listen to God and to focus on Jesus.  God’s work of transformation continues and lives are changed.  Allow the light of Christ to shine through all we do.

Impress a teenager; go to church.  Fight Islamic terrorism; practice Christianity.

The congregation sang “Happy Birthday” to our members with February birthdays last Sunday.  They are Corbin Gordon who celebrated on 2-1 and Jill Moore on 2-11.  Doris Morton will enjoy another birthday on 2-17 and Lee Lusk on 2-18.  Best Wishes to all of you.

JoAnn Herrin was welcomed into our congregation on 2-1.  JoAnn has been visiting us in church and coming to Community Table, so we are happy she has joined us.

Dublin Volunteer of the Year, Michael Haley, made a trip to Atlanta Georgia to visit his mother who was celebrating her 99th birthday!  Good for Michael and great for his mom.

Laura Leatherwood told the children at their lesson time about how Jesus healed the sick.  Laura said Jesus gave the gift of healing to many people, she said Jesus cared a lot about little children also.  Then Laura said “I have an early Valentine gift for you children.”  It was little toy stuffed monkeys and all the children got one.

Mary Haley served as the Worship Leader Sunday, she was “filling in” for her sister Lisa Leatherwood, Lisa has injured her back from stepping off a tractor!

Jo Ann Pate is back in the hospital due to a fall, by the time you read this she should be in Senior Care facility in Stephenville for therapy.  We wish Jo Ann a speedy recovery.

“When Jesus is Present, There is Healing,” was the title of Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon.  It was derived from Mark 1: 29-39.

We read in Mark that Jesus, James, and John went from the synagogue to go home with Simon Peter and Andrew.  Immediately Jesus is confronted with the sickness of Peter’s mother-in-law, she has a fever.  He takes her by the hand and helps her up and she is healed!

After sun set all the people in this small town bring their sick and demon possessed to Peter’s door and they are healed.

Early the next morning Jesus rises to pray in a place of solitude, away from the home.  Peter goes searching for Him because more people have come to be healed, but Jesus says they must leave and go somewhere else.  “Let us go to another village so I can preach there also.  That is why I’ve come.”

When everyone is searching for you remember to pray; our Lord needed to and so do you.  Remember that our goal is to win this lost world to Jesus Christ.  It might not be your job to preach because likely your job is elsewhere.  But go where you need to go and do what you can do to work for the Kingdom of God.
