I must make a correction, our new members are Gene and D.J. Klutts.  I misspelled their last name last week!

The second half of our April birthdays are Laura Leatherwood, Ray La Baume, Annette Cleveland, Lisa Leatherwood and Kathy Logan.  Best Wishes for a Happy Birthday!

Doris Morton brought two grandchildren to church services on 4/19.  They are always well behaved and went to the front for Children’s Lesson.

On Saturday, 4/18, Pastor Ken Lunsford attended a course of study presented by the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church held in Richardson, Texas at the Arapaho United Methodist Church.

“Be a Reliable Witness” was title of Rev. Ken Lunsford’s sermon.  He took his message from Luke 24: 36-48 which tells about Jesus appearing to and speaking with the Disciples after His resurrection.

There are many things we believe in this world that we haven’t seen.  As children we learned that the earth is round.  We had not traveled into space and looked back at the earth, but we believed what we had been taught.

We are here in church because two thousand plus years ago a man named Jesus rose from the grave.  Oh we weren’t there, we did not see it but a host of reliable people did see it.  And we have their testimony.

If Jesus were merely a bodiless apparition it would be too easy to dismiss His appearance as a mass psychosis brought on by their grief.  But they touched His nail-pierced hands and feet and His sword-pierced side.  Jesus even ate a meal with them, He was no ghost!  He was the risen Christ, of this they had no doubt.

Jesus tells His disciples that they are to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  He says “You are witnesses of these things.”  And what fearless witnesses they became.  No matter how they were treated they would not recant their faith.

The disciples spoke with Him and ate with Him and eventually, they died for Him.  There is no doubt of their reliability.  And now we seek to be reliable witnesses as well.  “He lives,” says the old Gospel hymn. “He lives! Christ Jesus lives today. . You ask me how I know He lives, He lives within my heart.”   That’s the best evidence of the resurrection.
