April 15, 2018
May 3 is the National Day of Prayer. Let’s mark our calendars and remember to go to the Lord in prayer as individuals or collectively. Pray for every town, city, and county in America to have at least one prayer observance on this special day, that will result in a mighty work of God.
April 29 is 5th Sunday Singing Service and pot-luck lunch. Ya’ll come and bring an appetite.
April 25 is Community Table and another excellent opportunity to help someone.
April birthdays are, Annette Cleveland, Mike Haley, Ray La Baume, Laura Leatherwood, Lisa Leatherwood, Betty Lusk, Lawrence Outlaw, Harlan Raley, Adrian Salinas, and Irene Sohm. Kathy Logan has a birthday on the last day of the month and you can send her card to Midland. Call our office for her address and phone number.
Our congregation extends profound sympathy to the family and friends of Cathy Pendleton.
D.J. Klutts served as Worship Leader and read the scripture lesson from Luke 24:36-49. Cole Moore was our acolyte.
After Jesus’ crucifixion, His disciples were trying to sort out the full meaning of the reports they were receiving about the risen Christ. Then Christ appeared to them in the flesh and said, “Peace be with you!” Jesus asked “Why are you troubled? See my hands and feet, it is I myself.”
Luke tells us that they “disbelieved for joy.” Some persons still have that problem today. They desperately want to believe but something holds them back.
They have difficulty believing that God cares that much. The notion of a God with nail prints in His hands and feet because of His unmeasurable love is too much to take in. Those nail prints should have been ours, but God so loved the world that He sent His Own Son to bear the burden.
It is hard to believe that life goes on beyond the grave. It is too wonderful to believe that there is another existence beyond this one. But that conviction is at the heart of our faith. Without the Easter faith not only death, but life would be meaningless. The risen Savior is alive and because He lives so shall we, if we take a walk with the man from Galilee and see His hands and feet and never run out of a purpose for life.
